The vibrant red Beet Root or the more common name Beet is a vegetable super food that has a taste that takes some getting used to and has been linked to increased stamina and blood flow as well as lowering the blood pressure.
It was often used in the Middle ages as a treatment for Anemia. In the Roman era it was used as a treatment for fever, wounds, skin issues, and loosening of the bowels. One of the more oddly used forms was it’s use as an a p h r o d i s i a c. The typical color of the beet root is red however there are many variations that are often looked over such as yellow, white and even a striped variation. The different varieties of Beet are : Chioggia, Formanova, Golden, Detroit Red Dark, Lutz Green Leaf.
Beets can be formed into dried crystals when concentrated and can be mixed with another drink.
The very earthy taste of beetroot can soften once it is cooked. Beet Root contains the following compounds: Magnesium, iron, vitamins A, B6 and C, folic acid, carbohydrates, proteins, antioxidants and fibre. It's leaves have an amazing source of calcium and iron, and beta carotene.
